VRAM is your graphics card's own memory. It holds the textures, geometry, and render targets the GPU needs right now. Unlike GPU speed — where overload just means fewer frames — VRAM is a cliff: while you fit, everything is fine; when you don't, the card starts swapping assets over the PCIe bus mid-frame and you get hitching, stutter, and one-second freezesthat no average-FPS number captures. As a rule of thumb from the hardware in our catalog: 4GB cards (GTX 1650, RX 570) should run Low/Medium textures in modern titles; 6GB (RTX 2060, GTX 1660) handles Medium/High at 1080p; 8GB (RTX 3060 Ti, 4060, RX 7600) is comfortable at High for most games at 1080p/1440p but hits its limit with Ultra textures + RT in the heaviest 2024–2026 releases; 12GB and up stops being a concern.
